It's hard to explain…
(an update from Ethiopia)
We have been unable to post a blog in a while – so much has been going on that I can't even express it all. Our family's adoption of Huxley has been more of a wild ride that we ever imagined, God is opening incredible doors for One Child Campaign here, we have been able to be with friends (new and old), experience living in another country as a family (going on a month now), see God provide, but more than anything know that God has a plan for us as a family to make a difference not only in Hux's life – but in the lives of thousands of the fatherless and destitute. It all started with a step of faith and it is that faith that sustains us. Yet, in this moment we feel like we have been living in a battlefield.
It's hard to explain to a 4 year old (even a smart one) why her brother can't be with us yet…
It's hard to explain to her that it's not because "they" don't like us…
It's hard to explain what it's like to live here in this country we love so much…
It's hard to explain why so many insane things have come to the surface…
It's hard to explain that we know we are in the right place at the right time…
It's hard to explain how hard it is to run an orphan care ministry remotely…
It's hard to explain how amazing it is to have friends/intern helping us, great family and incredible Advisory Board...
It's hard to explain how long it takes to get things done here, why it takes a week to accomplish one days' worth of One Child work at home…
It's hard to explain a mother's tears as she walks away again from her son…
It's hard to explain a father's determination and willingness to fight when something comes between him and his family…
It's hard to explain the pressure felt to make sure things are covered here and at home…
It's hard to explain how your emails and prayers have encouraged us…
It's hard to explain the weight of responsibility we feel being here…
It's hard to explain what it feels like to discover injustice right under our ministry's nose…and deal with it.
It's hard to explain the unknown…
It's hard to explain how much we know and how little we know…
It's hard to explain how grateful we are…
It's hard to explain our peace…
It's also hard to explain that even though we are walking through things we never imagined right now, that our faith is unshaken. We are filled with hope that our God is faithful. He is the Redeemer.
We are thankful for each of you and please know we will try to email you back on FB, from the One Child office email, etc. as soon as we can. But right now, please know that it's just hard to explain what we are going through. Yes, we are here to adopt, but we have also moved our whole lives here indefinitely including our ministry and it is simply a joy and simply intense beyond words.
And though we know that many of you are sincerely concerned and praying for what's happening in Ethiopia with adoption, we don't feel it's our place to speak for agencies but we do know that God has somehow in His plan put us here for a reason. We believe that it is to be one of his voices to call the church to arise, wake up, intercede, fast and BE the church. There is no greater power on earth.
"Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to die; save them as they stagger to their death. Don't excuse yourself by saying, 'Look, we didn't know'" Proverbs 24:11-12a
"Yes, captives will be taken from warriors, and plunder retrieved from the fierce; I will contend with those who contend with you, and your children I will save. " Isaiah 49:25
"The king's heart is like a stream of water directed by the Lord, he guides it whereever he pleases." Proverbs 21:1
"Those who plant injustice will harvest diaster, and their reign of terror will come to an end." Proverbs 22:8
"No human wisdom or understanding or plan can stand against the Lord." Proverbs 21:30
"...don't take the land of defenseless orphans, for their Redeemer is strong, he himself will bring their charges against you." Proverbs 23:10-11
"Don't rob the poor just because you can or exploit the needy in court. For the Lord is their defender. He will ruin anyone who ruins you." Proverbs 22:22-23
This post is a cry for every believer to make the cause of the orphan of utmost urgency. This is not just about our precious son, Huxley…it's the voice of millions of orphans crying out…for compassion and for justice. It's the voice of God.
